"In the words of Hamlet, '...to hold as 'twere the mirror up to nature, to show virtue her own feature, scorn her own image and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure'. Shakespeare was a clever young man."

What do we do?

Act Positive is a training company which will engage you, inspire you and enable you to think and feel differently about what you do.

On an average day you may experience a range of challenging situations and people.  How you think and feel about those situations directly influencfe what you do. This is why we have developed our 'think - feel - do' set of processes, proven to underpin real learning.

Act Positive specialises in developing communication between individuals, teams, departments, companies and cultures. Our work focusses on people and the impact that their attitudes and behaviours have in a particular context. We help to transform those attitudes and behaviours to support a process of positive change.

There are three distinct elements to what we do:

• The Thinking Process

- People need time to stop and think about what they do and how they can make things better.  In an Act Positive learning environment, people reflect on their own experiences, consider the way they respond to a situation and learn new concepts to develop thinking.  They discuss and assess new ideas to form the basis of a well thought out plan to implement change.

• The Feeling Process

- To change attitudes and ways of behaving, people need to  feel that the issue is relevant to them, that they can make a real difference and that they will be supported in making the changes.  Learners on our courses integrate the new ideas discussed into their own way of doing things.  They empathise with characters in similar situations and feel strongly about helping them.  The act of empathising leads to reflection on how we and other people feel and what alternatives there are.  People can feel what it is like to do something differently in the course so that the reality of making a change in an average day seems a small step to take.

• The Doing Process

- A fundamental part of change is the ability to practise new skills in a safe and supported environment.  All our courses offer significant opportunity to practise new concepts and skills.  Because the practice is often set in the safety of fiction, people can 'play' and make mistakes knowing that the result of their actions has no real consequences.  By doing things differently in  practise mode, people can quickly assess the potential outcomes and are able to make the change happen in the workplace rapidly and easily.
